20171122轉迷為悟新人生Transforming Lives Through the Dharma

Around this time every year, I am filled with joy to see our overseas volunteers come to Taiwan to be certified. I am filled with joy to see you all as you are fully prepared to shoulder the responsibilities of relieving the suffering in the world. Do you have this aspiration? (Yes. )

Indeed, it is rare to come to this world as humans and even more so to hear the Buddha's teachings. So, to walk the Bodhisattva Path by benefiting people with our actions is indeed a rare and valuable aspiration in life. Blessed as we are to be born as humans, to live out the true value of life, we need to reach out to people and go to people's aid in their times of need. Do you all have this aspiration? (Yes. )

Indeed, I have faith that you do. That is why you've undergone our three-year-long volunteer training to have a full understanding of Tzu Chi's spirit, and have made up your minds to walk the Tzu Chi Path. I have faith that you all have the aspiration and the resolution to carry it out. We've heard some volunteers share their stories.

Before they met Tzu Chi, they were not clear about the right direction in life. They have now changed for the better after learning the Dharma. This is truly very touching.

"Before I listened to Master's Dharma talks, I often fought with my husband, and I really wasn't a good person. I would gossip and speak ill of others. But I encountered Tzu Chi, and learned many Jing Si Aphorisms. I cannot read, but Jing Si Aphorisms are easy to understand. One of them goes, "If we have a bad temper and a sharp tongue, we cannot be considered a good person. "

"In 2013, my stepfather was diagnosed with cancer. Although he has three children, only my mother and I took care of him after the surgery. So, I resented my siblings.

But everything changed after I joined Tzu Chi 2014. I'm very happy whenever I can serve others. When I went to a nursing home and helped those physically-challenged elderly to participate in a Buddha Day ceremony, I was filled with joy. Then, I reflected on my relationships with my family. I seemed to have complained a lot about my siblings.

Later, I listened to Master's Dharma talks. One day, I heard Master say that we need to tap into our inner wisdom. It truly lightened up my heart. I thought that indeed, every day our thoughts, if unchecked, would prompt us to do wrong. Reflecting upon myself, I repented that I didn't pay attention to my thoughts, so I was lost in ignorance and afflictions.

But now, I get along with my family very well and I am happy serving as a Tzu Chi volunteer. Also, as I have changed my attitude, my siblings visit my father every week and take care of him with me. My father has been ill for over five years, but I have a happy family now. "

I saw you applaud them after they shared their stories. Did you applaud them because they've changed their lives for the better? (Yes. )  Indeed, it is rare and valuable for those who go astray in life to learn the Dharma and awaken to life's truths. I am truly moved by your life stories. That you have changed for the better is the best gift you can offer me.

It is the best gift for me that you have become certified Tuz Chi volunteers and that you have realized life's true principles and changed for the better. After we have realized life's principles, we need to apply them in our families and society. Your aspiration to go to people's aid and your contribution to society by doing so is truly the gift that I can offer you in this life.

And it fills me with the greatest joy to see how you've taken my teachings to heart and applied them to benefit people in the world. This is the best gift from you, and with it, I am filled with great joy. At this moment, we have volunteers from China in our Banqiao Complex and Sanchong Complex. Our karmic affinities are so good and special that we are able to learn the Dharma together. For this , I am truly very grateful.

So, everyone, after you heard other volunteers share how they have changed their lives for the better, you also need to apply the underlying principles.

We need to diligently follow the Jing Si Dharma lineage and walk the Tuz Chi Path in this world. To follow the Jing Si Dharma lineage, we need to learn the Dharma as much as we can so that we can find the right direction in life. As to walking the Tzu Chi Path in this world, we need to walk the Bodhisattva Path by taking action to benefit people.

With this right direction in life, we need to pave the path with our own actions because how far our path can be depends on how hard we work. To pave the Tzu Chi Path, we need to inspire people in the world with life's true principles and guide them to walk the Bodhisattva Path.

We need to inspire people that have karmic affinities with us to pave a smooth and broad Tzu Chi Path together so that we can truly bring peace to families and societies all over the world. To inspire people to walk and pave the path, (we need to serve other with our actions first. ) It's my wish that there will be peace and harmony in the world with everyone walking the Bodhisattva Path, serving more, and bringing love around the world.

Everyone, we need to do all that is good in order to inspire our family and society to embrace the good and bright side in life. And we need to discard our past ignorance and bad old ways by refraining from all evil and upholding all that is good in the world.
