20171104念念為善如寶樹Always Harboring Good Thoughts and Doing Good Deeds

We see what is happening in our world now and everyone should have a common understanding of the problem, have a consensus, and take collective action. People really need to awaken now as nature is out of balance.

Right now, many countries are experiencing severe disasters. Our volunteers are continuing relief efforts in many countries.

In providing relief, Tzu Chi aims to initiate relief right after a disaster took place and give spiritual support to affectees. We will accompany them until they recover. The duration of the relief work depends on each case in each disaster area.

In Mexico, our volunteers have been there for the quake relief since the earthquake happened. We are figuring out how to help the affectees. The disaster areas were severely affected;

It is beyond our capabilities to help all the affectees in all the areas, so we need to select affectees who are in dire need and help them. Our only concern is that some affectees might have a hard time accepting that they are not on Tzu Chi’s list.

We need to give the resources to those who need them the most; that’s why we continued to verify the affectees’ situation. We took time to plan how to distribute aid. We have shipped blankets from Taiwan.

There is a meaning behind distributing blankets, which is to raise awareness of environmental protection. They would know that recycled plastic bottles can be make into blankets and how to sort plastic items.

Now that winter is coming, the blankets can provide warmth in cold weather. The shipment of blankets has left Taiwan’s port and is heading towards Mexico.

In Mexico, we have designed a cash card. The cash card prohibits the purchase of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. All in all, it cannot be used to buy things that are harmful to the body.

While our volunteers verify and modify the list of affectees, they also recruit new volunteers. They’ve inspired affectees who were waiting for help to become people who help others. With embracing love, our volunteers helped the affectees be content, helped them realize that they are people who can help others, and helped them feel spiritually rich.

When volunteers brought along locals to verify the situation of affectees, many realized that, “I’m quake victim and have a lot of hardship, but going around the neighborhood with volunteers, I find people who are in worse conditions. I realized that being able to help others is such a blessing.”

So, they willingly let go of the mentality of needing help and vowed to help others. They started wearing the volunteer vests and became people who can help others. For more than a month, we have brought out the spiritual riches in people’s hearts.

These volunteers are full of lobe. Some of them use their leadership skills to assist Tzu Chi with relief work; this is quite special.

Over the past 50 years, Tzu Chi has been carrying out relief work in numerous countries, but none were like this in Mexico. Volunteers built close bonds with the locals. Hundreds of them have inspired to volunteer; they understand Tzu Chi’s values and spirit and know the Dharma lineage.

Some of them even took refuge and became my disciples through videoconferences. It’s quite touching. They all have strong faith in their religion, yet they are willing to accept Tzu Chi’s Dharma and have vowed to become Tzu Chi’s seed in Mexico.

Therefore, when one is aspired, anywhere can be a cultivation ground; anyone can be a living bodhisattva and walk the Bodhisattva Path.

In Malaysia, there are many entrepreneurs who have contributed greatly to the country and society. People awarded the title “Tan Sri” have high social status. Many of them support and contribute to Tzu Chi. We have all seen how they humbled themselves to help others; they are treasures of our world and the richest the rich.

Being rich does not only mean materially rich; the most important is being spiritually rich. People can transform themselves. Take Tan Sri Mr. Tan for example. He is very pious. Whenever he comes to Taiwan, he has shown his utmost sincerity. He is also very filial. When he heard my teachings, he followed them and became a vegetarian.

Mr. Tan has a very big business with offices almost everywhere in the world, so he needs to travels to many places. He also has to attend many social events, yet, without difficulty, he persisted in eating vegetarian. We see that he truly takes care of his wisdom-life and is true to his words. It is quite admirable.

There is also Tan Sri Mr. Lim and many others in Malaysia. They are very admirable as well. They are all very supportive of Tzu Chi and are great examples. All in all, they are richest of the rich and serve as role models for society. Their contribution helps brings harmony to his world.

If everyone can do good in whatever position they are in and think good thoughts all the time, it is like a jeweled tree, which symbolizes our vows. It is not easy to keep on making vows and carrying them out. If we can do that, then the balance in nature will return.
