20171110如法精進勤修行Learning the Dharma with Diligence

In the Philippines, because we have established Tzu Chi there 23 years ago, Tzu Chi volunteers have been able to give of themselves continuously over the last twenty years. Whenever major disasters occur, Tzu Chi volunteers took on the responsibility to carry out relief. When an earthquake struck Ormoc, our volunteers quickly provided aid in the disaster area by giving emergency supplies to the affectees.

We saw houses damaged by the quake, so we provided them with temporary, prefabricated houses. The parts were delivered and assembled on the site. (When there residents move in,) a priest went to perform a purification ceremony, so they can move in with peace of mind. It is not easy; we feel touched and grateful.

We also see volunteers in Jordan continue to help people in refugee camps and providing medical assistance. In the past few years, apart from providing daily necessities, volunteers also help with medical care. We see so many refugees. They face so many difficulties and hardships.

Being displaced in a country not their own is very hard. Tzu Chi volunteers in Jordan have been interacting with these refugees, and visiting them often to see how they are doing.

And we see how volunteers in Africa take the Dharma to heart and carry out their vows with faith.

Tzu Chi’s love circles around the world in every corner of the world. It circles around the world. Tzu Chi’s love circles around the world We will succeed, because we have Master’s Dharma.

We are witnesses to Master’s Dharma. We’ll go far to help those in need and suffering. We are witnesses to Master’s Dharma. We’ll care for all beings like a mother. You have found me on barren land and raised me up. Master Cheng Yen, how did you find me?

That song (sound like parts of one song,) but they are sung by volunteers from different countries in Africa. Look at these volunteers. They live in poverty, but they have taken my teachings to heart. With a sincere heart, they learn the Dharma despite much difficulty.

To attain their Dharma study group, they need to take a dollar van. The dollar van there is a 9-seated van. However, the occupancy is twenty people. A volunteer was injured with fracture in one foot, but she persisted in attending the Dharma study group.

From my house, I need to change the bus three times. There is other route, but I need to change the bus four times. Basically, it takes me about three and a half hours.

She persisted despite her injury. It’s very touching. See they have a lot of attendees in their Dharma study group.

Amituofo. Bow.

They have to take steps backward in order to bow. Seeing from behind, the large crowd moving backward is quite awe-inspiring. Look at them moving backward with such piety. They bow as they move backward. They take off their shoes not because there is anything special within the designated area.

They simply think of it as a form of discipline that they need to follow. They place their shoes neatly one after another and step into the designated area which is sandy soil. Following the rule, they are careful in placing their shoes outside the designated area in a neatly manner.

They’ve been holding this activity for a while, and there are still many attendees. How do they understand (my teachings in Chinese)? Our volunteers Denise translates for them. She translates it from Chinese to English. It is then translates into Portuguese, then into the local dialect. This is how they learn the Dharma.

After they understood the Dharma, Denise asked them to make it into a song. They came up with the lyrics and melodies almost right away. The song is quite touching. They can turn what they want to say into songs. They turn teachings into lyrics. Sometimes, they even turn teachings into skits. They performed a skit of the Sutra of Profound Gratitude to Parents in Mozambique. They performed the skit in their own way. The story in the skit is not a made-up one; (it is based on a true story of a volunteer) and what she has experienced.

Actually, I did those kind of things in the skit quite often before. I was very rebellious, and I had no respect for my mom, but she stayed by me. She keeps teaching about how to get along with others, and how to secure a bright future by walking on the right path.

I want to learn more. Tzu Chi has taught me a lot. I’ve now learned Master’s teachings, and I’ve learned to help others. I willingly help anyone in need. I’ve also come to understand that people need more than just material aid, they need unconditional love too, on the spiritual level.

This lady now becomes a sincere Tzu Chi volunteer, who greatly gives of herself. All in one, they are truly genuine and sincere. Despite the language differences, they believe (in my teachings).

I think what touches me the most is (their attitude). When they learn something that is different from what they’ve known, I’ve asked the volunteers, “How do you know which part is right?” They replied, “I just believe in what Master says.”

I am here for a meaningful cause. Everything I do is not without meaning. Master Cheng Yen, I know I’ll have your Dharma. This is more important than anything. Master’s Dharma is the driving force of my life.

Think about the way they learn the Dharma, and truly put the Dharma into practice; this is very touching. Especially they have to go through three or four of translations to understand my teachings. After they understand (the teachings), they apply it so faithfully to their daily life.

How can I not love them? What they do truly touches my heart, and there are many touching stories. You should watch the program, (Da Ai Journey), this Sunday. Please find time to watch it so that you know what our life and others’ life are like; how diligent we are and how diligent they are, and the ways they’ve overcome difficulties.
