20171002衷心回報救助恩Creating a Path to Help Disaster Affectees

In Houston, U.S., Tzu Chi volunteers distributed relief goods at several places. Through distribution, Tzu Chi volunteers used their sincerity and built rapport with the affectees.

This is very heartwarming. Volunteers have been there for over a month. Tzu Chi volunteers did not provide a lot of material aid, but the affectees have opened their hearts and shown us their smiles.

Look, at such difficult times, they were willing to adopt coin banks after they understood the meaning behind them. They now know that bits of contribution add up to help people.

Because they have received the love and help from many individuals, they are willing to give and to help others. This shows that they now have hope. Our relief distribution in Miami has come to an end for now. Our relief work there will resume for the next stage.

All in all, there is still a long way to go. We must keep the power of love going. Only love can give people hope. I am very grateful and touched that two cities in Houston have proclaimed one month as Tzu Chi Month.

Another city has designated a day as Tzu Chi Day. This is how they expressed their gratitude to Tzu Chi. It is an expression of love and gratitude.

Also in Mexico, our volunteer Stephen Huang has been communicating with the locals who are enthusiastic about the relief work. He reported that perhaps we can distribute a card similar to Taiwan’s EasyCard, rather than cash. This may be feasible.

Yesterday, I spoke to Mr. Lin, a Taiwanese businessman from Mexico. He happened to be in Taiwan. There was Mr. Fang from Houston. Mr. Fang said he could help out with our disaster relief in Houston.

Mr. Lin also said that he could help out with the disaster relief in Mexico. Both of them have connections with the local government and the communities, etc. With their support and help, our relief work there will go more smoothly. I am very grateful.

Indeed, in Mexico, after a big disaster, people need to care for one another, and spread the power of love so that everyone can harbor gratitude in their heart. We need to be sincere in helping the affectees.

In giving aid, we need to be more considerate and give what they need the most. Even though this requires more effort, this will truly help those in need and show them our sincerity. In personally giving them aid, we express our genuine sincerity. So, we must achieve this. I’m truly thankful and touched. I was even more touched by the report received yesterday.

Two days ago, I talked about our relief work in Mexico at the Morning Volunteer Assembly. Stephen saw the video of that day’s Life Wisdom program on his phone or laptop.

He happened to meet with some locals that day and quickly showed them the video. Tani, the lady in red, was very touched after watching the video. Another lady next to Stephen was Lily, who is the girlfriend of Matthew the photographer.

She lives in Mexico. Because of this, she was invited to help in the disaster relief. She also watched the video. She and Tani saw me mentioning them in the video and urging people to help Mexico. They were very touched.

Then, wonderful karmic affinities begin. The volunteers wanted to see the mayor. After many days, they finally met him. At first, the mayor kept his distance, but Stephen was persistent.

He showed the video to everyone. The mayor then cried. I heard that he cried for two minutes. Then, he said that he was under a lot of pressure. When the mayor saw that, from some place far away, there is a Buddhist nun worrying about them, trying to help them, and urging people to help Mexico, he broke into tears.

He had been holding in his emotions, but at that moment, he let the out and cried. My heart went out to him when I heard this. The mayor then said to Stephen that he hoped Tzu Chi could help his people.

He is willing to assist by providing us a list of poor people in the city. He can help in this area. Thus, our volunteers have created a path. As long as the direction is correct and there are volunteers there to create a path, it will connect us to the people in need.

It looks like the kindhearted locals are paving the path as well. This path will become smoother. It will benefit the affectees to help stabilize their lives for now. It is not enough to only give them material aid.

We have to take this opportunity to care for the affectees and guide everyone to be calm so that there’s a chance for people to generate strength to rebuild their life. This is what we need to accomplish there.
