20170925善念共振弭災難Harboring Good Thoughts to Mitigate Disasters

There are truly many disasters happening around the world. We are worried about some countries that we are not able to reach, such as India, Bangladesh, and Nepal, as they are still suffering from disasters.

In addition, Bangladesh is also facing a refugee crisis. Thousands of Rohingyas fled there from Myanmar, stretching the resources for the local refugee camps. The Rohingyas have no place to call home. They seem to be not accepted anywhere. Some people in this world are truly extreme suffering.

Also, it has been a month since Hurricane Harvey hit Houston, U.S. Tzu Chi volunteers have been providing disaster relief there for a long time. They went to many communities and interacted with the affectees to understand their situation and needs.

Volunteers made many trips for the undocumented residents. They have no papers and have lost their jobs. Their homes, rented or simply built, were destroyed by the hurricane. Yet, they can’t tell people of their situation or apply for aid.

People in a Vietnamese neighborhood were also affected by the disaster. They already led a difficult life before the hurricane. Think about it, we are all human beings. They were already living in hardship, and now they are suffering from a great disaster.

We should put ourselves in their shoes. Tzu Chi volunteers worked hard to help these affectees. They visited the impacted households and its residents, and meticulously documented their conditions.

It’s a lot of work. It’s a lot of work surveying the disaster area. Every day, volunteers have to travel hundreds of kilometers to do this. The U.S. is a big country. Thus, they have been working hard this month, and our relief work is still ongoing.

Some volunteers have been taking turns to carry out the relief work. Those who have returned home will soon set off to Miami, where it suffered great daage by Hurricane Irma.

Since there’s not enough manpower, some volunteers have returned home from Houston after finishing their shift. They will stay for a couple of days and set off to Miami, Florida and its surrounding areas for another disaster relief.

Tzu Chi volunteers are living bodhisattvas. Alleviating the sufferings of all living beings is how they cultivate themselves, so they will continue with the relief work. Not to mention that disaster relief is also needed in Mexico now.

It has been more than twenty days since an earthquake struck on Sept. 8 and more than a week since another earthquake that happened on Sept. 19. On Saturday, an aftershock of 6.1 magnitude hit Mexico.

In Mexico, we have very few Tzu Chi volunteers. They live 400 kilometers away from the disaster area. With only a few volunteers, how do we begin to help? There’s very little we can do.

So, volunteers from three different places in the U.S. have arrived Mexico City, they disaster area devastated by the quake that happened on Sept. 19. Only after they arrived did they start looking for lodging.

This is the report they sent back at 4 A.M. this morning. This starts our relief effort in Mexico. So, Tzu Chi volunteers in the U.S. need to allocate some of their manpower to Mexico. They really need more manpower.

When we regularly inspire people to give with love, at times of disaster, there will be a lot of helping hands. All in all, we must be sincerely pious and be vigilant in times of peace so that we can stay safe and well.

Now, everyone needs to be sincerely pious and be vigilant in times of peace. We should harbor good thoughts and give our power of love. Some people have time, so they can devote themselves in the relief effort.

For people living far away, they can do their part by inspiring people and purifying their hearts. With this love in the world, people will be willing to help others when learning of others’ suffering. That is true power.

Love creates blessing for the world. Love is the greatest power to mitigate disasters. What we really need now is for people all over the world to harbor good thoughts. As long as we give with love,

It does not matter how little we give because that love carries power. The thought of wanting to help and doing everything within our capabilities comes from compassion and the willingness to help.

This can create a force of blessings, which can mitigate disasters. We need to be grateful to many people coming together with their power of love. Even though each individual has only a little power, with their blessings, they give what they can.

When each individual’s small effort are pooled together, if forms great power. So, we must take good care of our hearts. When each person’s good thoughts are gathered together, it generates great power.

To alleviate people’s suffering, every religion can help. Religion differs only in name. The most important thing is that religion teaches people about life’s direction and purpose, which is toward doing good, and it guides everyone to help others.

Religion should guide people in this direction. All religion should inspire people to be pious and have aspirations. All religious beliefs are worthy of our respect as long as they teach correct life principles.

Besides showing respect, everyone should have a common belief of doing good. When people come together in this way, they bring about a sincerity that’s the most pious. With such piety, people’s prayers can resonate and reach the heavenly beings above. We can help by always having sincere piety.
