20170705生命同體護法親Working with One Heart to Care for One Another as Family

Often, my stay in Xinzhu is not long as I can visit our office here only twice a year. My next visit here will be at the end of the year. However, life is impermanent and anything can happen in the following half a year. Around this time every year, our overseas volunteers come to Taiwan for training camps.

This year, there are over 1,000 volunteers from 28 countries and regions that came to Taiwan at different times for the training camps. According to our volunteers in Taoyuan, several large groups of volunteers come to Taiwan from abroad every year.

No matter what time their flights arrive, sometimes as late as midnight, our volunteers in Taoyuan will greet them at the airport and offer them meals and lodging so that they can quickly get accustomed and feel at home. Last year alone, our volunteers in Taoyuan received more than 10,000 overseas volunteers in total. They’re truly admirable.

For years, they’ve sought to coordinate in the best manner possible and they work in great unity and harmony. Thye’re3 indeed paving the right path in life and nurturing their wisdom-life by doing so. In addition, they’ve truly taken the Dharma to heart and practice the Dharma in their daily life. So, they can offer volunteers from abroad warm hospitality.

I’m truly impressed that every year, our volunteers in Taoyaun display the spirit of working in unity like a big family when they receive our overseas volunteers. Taiwanese people often say that family members have to come together with one heart to be prosperous family. Our volunteers in Taoyuan also overcome every difficulty by working together with one heart.

Also, hearing how they care for other volunteers, I feel very saddened because the volunteers they care for are all our senior volunteers. See how they care for them attentively. It is indeed vert heartwarming. This is how our volunteers embrace all people in the world like their own family.

Tzu Chi volunteers always go to people’s aid whenever they learn of a disaster. Although those affected are not related to them our volunteers feel their pain as their very own. They are truly admirable because they have fully lived out the spirit of bodhisattvas. I’m glad that our volunteers in Xinzhu are all safe and well.

When we are safe and well we need to count our blessings. And, if any of our volunteers need help I believe that you can also feel their pain as your own.

When I was in Taipei this time, our TIMA doctors shared how they held free clinics in Taidong and Suao.

They went to Taidong to offer free clinics to patients who stayed at a Genesis Social Welfare Foundation branch there. Not only dentists but also physicians and surgeons engaged in dental scaling so that the patients’ vital signs could be better monitored. Learning that seven to eight staff cooperated to take care of a patient, I’m moved from the bottom of my heart.

I’m also very grateful that our volunteers went there one day earlier to set up basic facilities. They’re indeed heroes who deserve our equal admiration because they had to arrive one day earlier to clean up the environment and set up basic facilities so that the medical equipment can run smoothly. They were very attentive and mindful, hoping that the doctors could begin the clinics as soon as they arrived.

So, they did their best, to make sure every instrument was set properly. That was a lot of work. Although only one dentist is required to do scaling for a patient, there were seven to eight staff working together to monitor the patient’s vital signs and provide necessary care. I’m truly very grateful to all of them.

After the free clinics in Taidong, our doctors went to Suao to offer free clinics to foreign fishermen. Our doctors give with love to take care of the foreign fishermen. This is truly touching to see. To offer aid to the fishermen, they had to overcome many difficulties and find ways to help. As we all vow to walk the Bodhisattva Path and vow to practice together the Six Paramitas attaining Buddhahood is our shared goal. This is what we should strive for.

In all, what I wish to emphasize is that we need to lovingly care for our fellow volunteers, who are our Dharma family. We will all grow old and may fall ill. Whenever our Dharma family need our help, we should be with them and bring attentive care to them, just like how we always offer our family help to those in need even if they’re not related to us.

Our work in Xinzhu started very early on in Tzu Chi’s history, thanks to the long-term efforts of many senior volunteers, such as Hong Gui-mei, Zheng Zhuang, to name a few. It was thanks to eh support of many people that we could build our office in Xinzhu. Although this office is a little bit far from downtown Xinzhu, it is very spacious. So, we should make the best of our office to benefit communities.

Indeed, we should cherish our resources here so that we can better promote our work and purify people’s minds in Xinzhu. Only by purifying people’s minds can we bring peace to society and can everyone be safe and well. If people’s minds are purified, there’ll be fewer conflicts, and we’ll have a harmonious and peaceful society.
